PDF to JPG turns every page of a PDF into a standalone JPG image. Choose a 1× to 5× scale, tune the JPG quality from 60% to 100%, and set a white or black background. Then download single pages by hovering a thumbnail or grab the whole set as a ZIP. The pages are rendered with pdf.js and encoded on your device, so the file never leaves your browser. JPG is universal — it opens in every photo viewer, uploads to any social platform and displays in any browser without a PDF plugin.
What is a PDF to JPG converter?
A PDF to JPG converter renders each page of a PDF as a raster image in the JPEG format. The PDF keeps the document as text and instructions; the JPG keeps it as pixels. That transformation changes everything about how the file behaves: JPG opens in every photo viewer, inserts into slides and chat apps without plugins, uploads to social media directly, and can be edited in any image editor.
People convert PDFs to JPG for many reasons: posting a single page on a website or blog, sharing a preview with a colleague, uploading a certificate or ID photo to a portal that only accepts image files, or converting a scanned PDF into a format that image editors and OCR tools can read. A JPG is also the easiest way to guarantee a page renders identically everywhere, because every browser and OS has a JPEG decoder built in.
The tool uses pdf.js to draw each page onto a canvas, then canvas.toBlob() to encode it as JPEG. That is the same pipeline the browser uses for screenshots. You can read more about the PDF format on the PDF Wikipedia page and about JPEG on the JPEG article.
How to convert PDF to JPG in 5 steps
The process is short and needs no account. Follow these steps and the first JPGs will be ready in under a minute.
- Add your PDFDrag a PDF onto the upload card, click Browse, or import directly from Google Drive or Dropbox. The tool renders a thumbnail for every page inside your browser using pdf.js.
- Choose the resolutionPick a scale from 1× to 5×. 2× matches most modern screens; 3× or 4× is sharper for high-DPI laptops and printing; 5× is archival quality and produces very large files.
- Set JPG quality and backgroundQuality runs from 60% to 100% — 95% is a good default. Background chooses white or black, which matters for transparent PDF pages.
- Pick file namingNaming chooses how the files are labelled — page-1.jpg, page-001.jpg, or document-1.jpg. Every file keeps its page number so the ZIP sorts correctly.
- Convert and downloadClick Convert to JPG. Each page becomes a separate .jpg file. Download the whole set as a ZIP, or hover a thumbnail and press the download button to grab only that page.
Rendering speed depends on page count and scale. A 20-page PDF at 2× usually finishes in a few seconds; a 200-page PDF at 5× can take a couple of minutes because every page is drawn and encoded separately. The progress ring shows live status.
Everything the converter can do
| Setting | Options | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Resolution | 1× – 5× | Multiplies pixel dimensions. 2× is the recommended default; 5× is archival. |
| JPG quality | 60% – 100% | Controls JPEG compression. 95% is nearly lossless for text. |
| File naming | page-1, page-001, document-1 | Controls the file names in the ZIP and per-page download. |
| Background | White, black | Fills the page before rendering. JPG cannot be transparent. |
| Auto-download single image | On / off | For single-page PDFs, downloads the JPG automatically. |
| Optimize for web | On / off | Marks the output as progressive JPEG in the result panel. |
| Per-page download | Hover a thumbnail | Grab a single page after conversion. |
| ZIP download | One click | Pack every image into a .zip named after the PDF. |
| Import sources | Device, Google Drive, Dropbox, clipboard | Loads the PDF without leaving the browser. |
Scale, quality and file size
Scale and quality are the two levers for sharpness and file size. Scale controls how many pixels per page, quality controls how aggressively those pixels are compressed.
| Scale | A4 pixels (approx) | Typical use | Relative size |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1× | ~595 × 842 | Quick previews, small screens | Smallest |
| 1.5× | ~892 × 1263 | Standard sharing | Small |
| 2× (recommended) | ~1190 × 1684 | Modern laptops and tablets | Medium |
| 3× | ~1785 × 2526 | High-DPI screens, printing | Large |
| 4× | ~2380 × 3368 | Archival, print poster | Largest |
| 5× | ~2975 × 4210 | Archival, very large screens | Very largest |
Rule of thumb: 2× scale and 95% quality is the sweet spot for most use cases. Use 3× or 4× when you plan to print or need to zoom on fine details. Drop to 1× for quick previews.
Your PDF stays private
Everything happens in your browser. The PDF is loaded with pdf.js, each page is drawn to a canvas, and the images are encoded with canvas.toBlob(). Nothing is uploaded, logged or stored. When you close the tab, the file is gone from memory.
- Local processing. Rendering and encoding both run on your device, so confidential documents never leave your computer or phone.
- Direct cloud downloads. When you import from Google Drive or Dropbox, your browser fetches the file straight from that provider after you grant access.
- No account needed. You can convert without signing in. Read our privacy policy for details about the site itself.
Tips for the best results
- Start at 2× and 95%. That is sharp on every screen without bloating the ZIP.
- Use the per-page download for a single page. It is faster than building a ZIP for one file.
- Keep the page number in filenames. When you sort the ZIP alphabetically, pages stay in order.
- Choose the black background for slides. If your PDF has white text on a dark slide, a white background looks wrong.
- Compress the source PDF. Smaller PDFs render faster. Run them through our Compress PDF tool first.
- Use 1× when you just need a preview. File size shrinks dramatically.
Common problems and quick fixes
| Problem | Likely cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Transparent areas show white or black | JPG cannot carry an alpha channel | This is normal. Choose the background colour that matches the document. |
| ZIP is very large | High scale with a low quality setting | Drop to 2× and 95% — the ZIP shrinks dramatically with almost no visible change. |
| Per-page download button is missing | Page not converted yet | Click Convert to JPG first; the per-page button only works after conversion. |
| Text looks blocky | Low JPG quality | Raise quality to 90% or above for text-heavy pages. |
| Cloud import fails | The sign-in window was blocked | Allow pop-ups for this site, then press the Drive or Dropbox button again. |
Import from Drive and Dropbox, then share
You do not need to download the PDF to your phone first. The upload card includes Google Drive and Dropbox buttons, and the editor toolbar repeats them. The provider opens its own file picker, you select the PDF, and the tool downloads it into the page list with a live progress bar.
After conversion, the share panel appears under the download button. You can post a link to the tool on WhatsApp, Facebook, X, LinkedIn or Telegram, send it by email, or copy the link. On phones and tablets that support the Web Share API, the Share ZIP button opens the system share sheet with the archive attached.
