PNG to PDF turns one or more images into a single PDF document. Add PNG, JPG, WebP or AVIF files from your device, Google Drive or Dropbox. Drag the thumbnails into order, choose a page size, orientation, margin and quality, then click Convert to PDF. The tool builds the file inside your browser, so your pictures stay on your device. Download the PDF, preview it, or share it right away. The process is free, needs no signup, and works on phones, tablets and computers.
What is a PNG to PDF converter?
A PNG to PDF converter places one or more pictures inside a PDF file. The PDF format keeps every page looking the same on every device, which is why schools, banks, courts and employers ask for it. A raw image can shift shape or colour depending on the app that opens it. A PDF locks the layout in place. This tool converts PNG, JPG, WebP and AVIF images, so you can handle screenshots, phone photos, logos and web graphics in one workflow.
Most people search for “png to pdf” because they must submit several screenshots or graphics as one document. A single PDF is easier to email, upload to a portal, print and archive than twenty separate pictures. Our converter combines every image into one file, lets you reorder pages by dragging, and gives you exact control over page size, orientation, margins and quality.
The PDF format is an open standard published as ISO 32000. You can read its background in the Wikipedia article on PDF, and the story of the picture format in the PNG article. If you already have a finished PDF and want pictures back, try our PDF to JPG converter.
How to convert PNG to PDF in 5 steps
The tool follows a simple path. You never need to install software or create an account. Follow these steps for a clean result on your first try.
- Add your PNG imagesDrag files onto the upload card, click Browse, paste an image from your clipboard, or import files from Google Drive or Dropbox. The tool accepts PNG, JPG, WebP and AVIF.
- Arrange the pagesDrag thumbnails into the order you want. Rotate any picture, remove mistakes, sort files A to Z, or reverse the whole sequence with one click.
- Choose page settingsPick Fit, A4, Letter, A3, A5 or Legal. Set orientation, image fit mode, margin and background colour.
- Set quality and extrasChoose a quality preset, switch on grayscale or page numbers, and adjust how transparent areas are handled.
- Convert and downloadClick Convert to PDF and watch the progress circle. Then download the file, preview it in a new tab, or share it with friends and colleagues.
A small batch usually finishes in a few seconds. Larger batches take longer because the browser processes each picture one by one, so keep an eye on the progress circle for live status. If you need to adjust something afterwards, change a setting and press Convert again. Your images stay in the list until you clear them.
Everything the converter can do
Beyond basic conversion, the tool packs the controls that people normally pay for. This table lists each setting, its options, and the effect you can expect.
| Setting | Options | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Page size | Fit, A4, Letter, A3, A5, Legal | Sets the paper size for every page, or matches each page to its image. |
| Orientation | Auto, Portrait, Landscape | Rotates the page so wide pictures use landscape and tall pictures use portrait. |
| Image fit | Fit inside, Fill page, Stretch | Controls whether the tool keeps ratio, crops edges, or stretches the image. |
| Margin | 0 to 60 points | Adds white space around the picture for printing. |
| Quality | Best, High, Medium, Small size | Balances sharpness against file size. |
| Background | Any colour | Fills transparent areas and empty page space. |
| Keep PNG transparency | On or off | Preserves the original alpha channel instead of flattening it. |
| Grayscale | On or off | Converts colour pictures to black and white to save ink. |
| Page numbers | Four positions | Prints a small label on each page. |
| Document details | Title, author, file name | Stores metadata in the PDF and names the download. |
| Per-image tools | Rotate, remove, sort, reverse | Fixes sideways photos and wrong order before you convert. |
Each control updates the final file without extra steps. If you need heavier editing after conversion, open the result in our PDF editor or add a header with the header and footer tool.
Page sizes and orientation explained
Choosing the right page size prevents blurry prints and awkward margins. Most of the world uses the ISO 216 “A” series, where each size halves the one before it. The United States and Canada use Letter and Legal. You can learn more about the A-series logic in the ISO 216 overview.
| Size | Millimetres | Inches | PDF points | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| A5 | 148 × 210 | 5.83 × 8.27 | 420 × 595 | Booklets, notes, small flyers |
| A4 | 210 × 297 | 8.27 × 11.69 | 595 × 842 | Reports, forms, applications |
| A3 | 297 × 420 | 11.69 × 16.54 | 842 × 1191 | Posters, drawings, plans |
| Letter | 216 × 279 | 8.5 × 11 | 612 × 792 | US and Canadian documents |
| Legal | 216 × 356 | 8.5 × 14 | 612 × 1008 | Contracts and legal forms |
| Fit | Matches the image | Varies | 1 pixel = 1 point | Screenshots, artwork, memes |
Orientation works the same way across sizes. Auto rotates each page to suit the picture, Portrait forces tall pages, and Landscape forces wide pages. If your photos are a mix of both, Auto keeps every picture as large as possible without cropping.
Why convert PNG images to PDF?
People convert pictures to PDF every day, and the reasons go beyond tidiness. A PDF opens the same on Windows, macOS, Android and iOS, so the reader sees exactly what you intended. These are the most common situations.
Screenshots and how-tos
Combine step-by-step screenshots into one PDF guide that readers can scroll, print and share without losing order.
Logos and brand assets
Package logo files with transparency intact, or flatten them onto a brand colour for consistent printing.
Homework and notes
Students photograph handwritten pages and merge them into one PDF that teachers can open, annotate and grade.
Applications and ID
Combine passport, ID and certificate photos into one file for visa, job and university portals that accept a single upload.
Portfolios and design
Designers use Fit mode to keep every artboard at its original proportions and share a clean portfolio.
Receipts and expenses
Bundle receipt screenshots by month and send one tidy document to your accountant or finance team.
Many of these tasks continue after conversion. You can merge the result with other PDFs, protect it with a password, or sign it electronically without leaving the site.
Your images stay private
Privacy matters when your pictures include IDs, invoices or family photos. This converter runs in your browser. The tool reads each file on your device, draws it on a canvas, and writes the PDF with the open-source pdf-lib library. The finished document is created on your computer or phone, and you decide whether to download it, preview it or share it.
- Local processing. The conversion code runs on your device, which also makes it fast on a good connection and usable on slow ones once the page has loaded.
- Direct cloud downloads. When you import from Google Drive or Dropbox, your browser fetches the file straight from that provider after you grant access.
- No account needed. You can convert without logging in. Read our privacy policy for full details about the site.
PNG transparency explained
PNG stands out because it can store an alpha channel, which records how transparent each pixel is. That is why logos and interface mockups often use PNG. When you convert such a file to PDF, you have two choices: keep the transparency or flatten it onto a solid background.
| Option | What happens | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Keep PNG transparency | The alpha channel is embedded in the PDF. Transparent areas stay see-through. | Logos, overlays, mockups placed on coloured pages. |
| Flatten onto background | The tool paints the chosen colour behind the picture, then stores a normal JPEG. | Printing on white paper, shrinking the file size. |
When you keep transparency, the PDF file is usually larger because PNG uses lossless compression. When you flatten it, the JPEG path can shrink the file dramatically. Choose whichever path matches your goal, and remember that the option only affects PNG source files. JPG and WebP files are handled by the same logic depending on whether they carry an alpha channel.
Quality and file size
Quality and size pull in opposite directions. A sharper picture needs more data, and more data makes a bigger PDF. Use the quality preset to hit the size limit of an upload form without ruining the picture.
| Preset | JPEG quality | Typical result | Choose it when |
|---|---|---|---|
| Best | 95% | Sharp detail, largest file | You print photos or archive originals. |
| High | 85% | Very good detail, noticeably smaller | You share documents by email. |
| Medium | 75% | Good for screens, small file | A portal limits uploads to a few megabytes. |
| Small size | 60% | Visible softening, smallest file | You send many pages over a slow connection. |
Rule of thumb: start with High quality. If the file is still too big, move to Medium. For PNG screenshots, keeping transparency often makes the file larger, so flatten it onto white or a brand colour when the document is destined for print.
If the PDF still exceeds a limit, run it through our PDF compressor for an extra reduction.
Tips for the best PDF results
- Name files in order. Use names such as page-01 and page-02, then press Sort. The tool arranges them alphabetically in one click.
- Rotate before you convert. Hover a thumbnail and press the rotate button to fix sideways phone photos so the PDF opens upright.
- Pick A4 or Letter for printing. Standard paper sizes avoid scaling surprises at the print shop.
- Use Fill page for photos. The crop option removes empty borders and gives a full-bleed look, while Fit inside protects every edge of a document scan.
- Keep margins for documents. A 20-point margin stops printers from clipping text near the edge.
- Switch on grayscale for text scans. Black and white pages print faster, use less ink and often compress better.
- Add a title and author. Metadata helps search tools and file managers recognise your document later.
- Preview before you share. Press Preview to open the PDF in a new tab and check every page.
PNG, JPG, WebP and AVIF compared
The converter accepts four common picture formats. Each one stores pixels differently, so the best choice depends on the picture. The tool redraws every file on a white or custom background and embeds it as a high-quality JPEG, or keeps the PNG path when transparency is enabled.
| Format | Compression | Transparency | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| PNG | Lossless | Yes | Screenshots, logos, diagrams |
| JPG / JPEG | Lossy | No | Photographs and scans |
| WebP | Lossy or lossless | Yes | Web images with small file sizes |
| AVIF | Lossy or lossless | Yes | Modern web images with very small size |
PNG files with transparent areas receive the background colour you pick when transparency is switched off, so a logo never turns black by accident. You can read the official PNG specification or learn about WebP at Google Developers if you want the technical details. For dedicated flows, see our JPG to PDF and Image to PDF tools, or convert an SVG with SVG to PDF.
Import from Drive and Dropbox, then share
You do not need to download pictures to your phone first. The upload card includes Google Drive and Dropbox buttons, and the editor toolbar repeats them so you can add more files later. The provider opens its own file picker, you select the images, and the tool downloads them into the page list with a live progress bar.
| Source | How to use it | Multiple files |
|---|---|---|
| Device | Drag, browse or tap the upload card | Yes |
| Google Drive | Click the Drive button and sign in | Yes |
| Dropbox | Click the Dropbox button and sign in | Yes |
| Clipboard | Press Ctrl + V or Cmd + V | One image per paste |
After conversion, the share panel appears under the download button. You can post a link to the tool on WhatsApp, Facebook, X, LinkedIn or Telegram, send it by email, or copy the link. On phones and tablets that support the Web Share API, the Share PDF file button opens the system share sheet with the finished document attached, so you can send it through any installed app.
Common problems and quick fixes
Most conversion problems come from a handful of causes. Check this list before you start over, because each fix takes only a few seconds.
| Problem | Likely cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Pages open sideways | The photo carries rotation data from the camera. | Hover the thumbnail and press the rotate button until the picture stands upright. |
| PDF is too large | High-resolution screenshots at Best quality. | Choose Medium quality or switch off Keep PNG transparency and flatten onto white. |
| Pictures look cropped | Image fit is set to Fill page. | Switch to Fit inside to keep every edge of the picture. |
| Page order is wrong | Files were added in a different order than their names. | Press Sort for alphabetical order, or drag the tiles by hand. |
| Transparent logo shows black | Another tool filled the empty area with black. | Pick a background colour, or switch on Keep PNG transparency. |
| Cloud import fails | The sign-in window was blocked or closed. | Allow pop-ups for this site, then press the Drive or Dropbox button again. |
| Browser slows down | Too many large pictures in a single batch. | Convert in smaller groups, then merge the PDFs. |
If an image refuses to load at all, open it in your gallery and save a fresh copy as PNG or JPG. Some rare formats, such as HEIC from older iPhones, need a conversion first. Our file format converter can help with that step.
Online converter versus other methods
You can also create PDFs with desktop software or phone print menus. Each method has trade-offs, and an online tool wins when you need speed, flexibility and no installation.
| Method | Install needed | Reorder pages | Quality control | Works on any device |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| This converter | No | Drag and drop | Quality, transparency, grayscale | Yes |
| Desktop editor | Yes | Yes | Advanced | No |
| Operating system print to PDF | No | Limited | Basic | Partly |
| Phone scanner app | Yes | Yes | Basic | Phone only |
For one-off jobs and daily office tasks, the browser route removes friction. You open the page, add pictures, and leave with a finished file. When you later need to edit the document, the rest of the PDF toolkit is only a click away.
